archives for clayart: yahoo groups "clayart" and "potters org"

updated tue 29 apr 08

Not sure whether I sent this or whether it went through...

Perhaps it's hardly relevant anymore, but I was trying to post from the
e-group
"Clayart."

It can't be done from the website, as it is "a rchive only," but maybe
it'll go through as a regular e-mail... (Nope!)

If not, I'll re-send to the listserv address...

In any case, about the Yahoo Group "Clayart":

This e-group on yahoo has been in existence for quite a while, and I
just realized that it is a good source for archives, though of course,
it is web-based only, unlike a listserv database, that can be accessed
by e-mail commands.

Hmmm! Maybe someone with lots of bandwidth, some time to research the
commands and lots of disk space could get the entire list of posts
since 1996 and then send for them all via e-mail. That would be a
start...

Of course, it's a pretty broad-brush method of getting archives:
everything would be in it, good and bad...

More finely tuned but probably more time-consuming by far would be a
search under various major subject categories. Some posts would be
missed; others would come through but be irrelevant.

A search for a word in the body of the post might be possible, but I'm
not sure...

I leave it to others to follow up on.

Don't forget Alan Ambrose's http://www.potters.org archive. It's
searchable, and has a number of categories too, plus the "current
discussion" link.

Best to all,

Helen

PS: It just came to me why we have to use the name "newclay" instead of
"clayart" with Yahoo!... Duh! ;)

Helen et al.,
The ClayArt Yahoo group only has the last couple of years of postings
to ClayArt. It's better than nothing, but I'm working on getting all
of the postings to make them publicly available.

I've worked as a computer programmer/analyst/database administrator
for over 30 years. The ClayArt archives are basically just a database,
and not an overly complex or large one in database terms (even though
it includes data since 1996). I've offered my assistance to Mel and am
currently working on getting the archives to keep them as a valuable
resource for everyone. As long as ACERs cooperates, there's no reason
this can't happen.
