Well, Kiln freakiness must be contagious!

Here's my tale. All suggestions welcome:

I have a small Paragon ( dont know the model number off hand...
but its 6 x 6-ish on the inside...5 sided...test kiln ) ...Has an Orton
3 button controller on it... no shut off switch ...To turn the kiln
on , you plug it in.. to shut it off completely , you unplug it.
Ive run it for quite a while with no problem ...
Yesterday , I plugged it in and had trouble getting
the control panel to
get to the ramp programming part.. The display said ( I think
) Alarm " ?
and after pushing the 1st button a few times, I finally got
it to go into
program mode...
Did a 1 ramp fire with the ramp pushed to full
and the final temp set for
1450. ... Fired fine twice ....
I didnt unplug it after firing because I knew I was going
to fire it again
......
I fired before bedtime again last night... no
problems getting everything
going... I did some computer .. and then checked the kiln .. It
Flashed done at 30 minutes and was down to 160 ... everything normal...
I even LIfted the lid a little to peek inside ...everything
looked good but too
hot to unload.. so I went to bed... Didnt unplug the kiln.. ( yeah
, I KNOW!
Slap me!)

Well, I woke up to find that it had turned itself back on ....The
program was flashing something ...maybe Alarm again.. I
tried shutting it down
by using the buttons and got no response... so I pulled
the plug.. Was so
freaked that I didnt take a closer look at what the display
said ( Sorry ! I
know that probably would have helped diagnose this ) ...
Anyway , I have NO idea where it was at temp wise... but it was
definitely WAY beyond the 1450 it was programmed for the last fire...

Anyway , Sounds like the control panel is shot... ANy ideas of things I
can check? I DONT want to have to replace the panel.. or the kiln..
Although I ve had the kiln for a few years, I havent fired
it that much ... maybe 100 fires...
HELP!
