i can't call this art

I have some appreciation for art that has some shock value- I saw "Sensation" in England 10 years ago and was fascinated by the preserved critters (of at least scientific/educational value, if not "art"), the beautiful and obviously lovingly produced "Dead Dad" sculpture, and many other works. That I remember and appreciate them 10 years later speaks to their power (of course- I mean - in my eyes).

I didn't go to art school, and didn't even take any art classes in high school that would have even introduced theory, but even if it is "art"- that does not automatically mean that cruelty should be allowed, IMNSHO. If the country that it's shown in (if it actually happened as reported on the internet) has no laws regarding this sort of cruelty, then maybe some good will come in forcing them to think about them.

Sent pots out to friends recently- 2 of which are quite ill. The pots brought some happiness to them, and I really love the process of making them. Is what I do "art"?

I have a very simple design I've started carving that makes me think of a warm breezy day. A potter friend saw it and just out of the blue remarked that it was somehow relaxing. Damn- I have to watch out that I don't become an "artist" :)
