Would someone please share the secrets of those beautiful raku glazes and
effects shown in the pictures on the bottom of page 52 of this months
Ceramics Monthly?
I've tried the funky glaze recipes listed and not got any impressive or
consistant results.
Frustrating!

Susan,
Part of the =22secret=22 is in the reduction. What are you using for =
reducing
material once you pull it out of the kiln? Hay or other material with a lot=
of
organic material creates the deepest blacks. The other key is the length of
time from the kiln to the reducting chamber. Be sure that the seal on your
reducting chamber is fairly secure. Let the hay catch fire and them smother=
it
and let it smalder for a while.
The red you see in one of the pieces is more than likely a commercial low =
temp.
glaze. The others are aligator glaze versions. I will have to post =
recipe's
tomarrow.
