Mel,

Hair spray? Like really the stuff women used to (well maybe some still
do) but on their hair?

that -12F outside firing was really nice.
almost perfect. no seconds.

i have added some pix of some experiments with
pete's red. (click below, clayart page.)

i applied hair spray to 5-6 larger plates and
poured a thick application of copper red glaze/dried it
fast with a hair dryer.
it cracked up some....as i would hope.

fired them low in the kiln in the hottest place...cone 11+

the largest platter has those nice fissures of white showing
through the red and some very nice crystals in the center.

the purple crystal lake in the bottom of the bowl is
very nice.

the third piece is red fired over a temmoku plate.
that moved the glaze very well.

fun stuff. and, i love to take really awful plates, that are
ready for the scrap, and add copper red and re-fire.

it takes a really thick application to get any exciting effects.

i hope some of you try this. it is interesting...
and that big red plate is a real show piece.
it will be on the wall of my big show at the
hopkins center for the art...opens may 14.
paintings, pots old and new. 50 years of art.
i am also going to be in the minnetonka studio tour.
may 4 or so.
this is all part of my plan to stimulate new names for my
mailing list. this should add about 500 new names.
remember, know one else will do it for you....it is up to me.
