'Finally',somebody with some 'balls', all'righty' then, these are the rules=
'I' would like, but we will agree upon them before we do it. Any part of t=
he rules you don't like, we can change, just let me know. I would like to u=
se rules similar to the "Mondialtornianti" which you can find here:=20

http://www.estateceramica.com/mondial/regolamento.cfm

Art. 4 - Regulations for competition performance

Both technical and aesthetic tests must be carried out using the potter's w=
heels provided by the Organizing Committee and assigned by lot by the Judgi=
ng Committee. The potter will have to bring the rest of the equipment (wire=
, trowels, modelling tools, sponges, etc.). Besides, competitors will be pr=
ovided with the same type of clay weighed in public by the Judging Committe=
e. The exact quantity of clay will be registered before it is placed on the=
potter's wheel.

Tests for the World Championship:
* The tallest cylinder: competitors must create a single artefact by using =
the clay distributed by the Committee. The quantity will be fixed in accord=
ance with the following ratio:
diameter of the cylinder cm 16 =3D Kg 6
diameter of the cylinder cm 18 =3D Kg 7
diameter of the cylinder cm 20 =3D Kg 9
The Judging Committee will choose one of the above measures by lot and in p=
ublic.
* The widest bowl: competitors must create a single artefact by using the c=
lay distributed by the Judging Committee; they will be provided with the sa=
me quantity that will be chosen by lot before the beginning of the test (Kg=
7, Kg 8 or Kg 9). The base of the artefact must not exceed the diameter of=
the potter's wheel.
Both tests must be accomplished in 20 minutes during the preliminary heat a=
nd in 30 minutes during the final heat.
The Potter must move the artefact using a wire. During this action the inte=
rior base of the artefact must not be altered or damaged.
Test for the Aesthetic World Championship:
In accordance with the Law 188/90 on the D.O.C. mark, the Organizing Commit=
tee are convinced that Potters are essential for the creation of a perfect =
ceramic artefact. Therefore, this year participants will have to create art=
efacts recalling a jug, a pitcher or a pourer, using a classical style (thu=
s respecting the traditional shapes and dimensions of each =93ceramic area=
=94) or an innovative style. Competitors must create their artefact in 20 m=
inutes. Afterwards, only the Potter can add some embellishments and he/she =
can do it in 20 minutes.

To make it worth your while,I suggest we bet 100$? or whatever you want. We=
will each send a money order to a neutral person on the list and 'you' can=
judge the contest 'yourself' if you want, I trust you.

We should just go for tallest cylinder?

The cylinder must removed from the wheel before measuring without damaging =
or deforming the floor of the cylinder.=20

I think we should agree to put our video documentation on youtube on the sa=
me day.

I think since we are in different parts of the country, each of us should u=
se their favorite kind of clay.
(I would use Soldate 60 if its allright with you)

I think we should be able to use any kind of hand tools we like (I would us=
e a round metal lid from a can of tuna and a regular 'oval' metal rib that =
you get with a kemper kit and maybe two round black river stones)

I do not think any kind of fan, hair dryer or heating device should be allo=
wed (just your hands and whatever you can hold in them)

The time limit should be 20 minutes (or less if you like)

Maybe we could go for 10 pounds? (or whatever you like)

The diameter of the cylinder will be 7 inches?

If theres anything else you can think of let me know.

I just want you to know that even if I win I will still respect you. Its ju=
st all in fun. What I really want is for 'all' of us (advanced throwers fro=
m this list) to train 'together' and pace each other to enter the word cham=
pionships in Italy.

And if I win, you have to join my team, and train for the World Championsh=
ip contest in Italy. (from where you are of course)

"Good Luck"
Rumplestiltskin=20

Dayton,
A's a member of the judging committee
(self appointed of cour'se)
I want to amend the rule's.
1. Each conte'stant mu'st perform compul'sory
form's with point's awarded for degree of match
to the specification's.
2. Each conte'stant will be given the parameter's
in advance and allowed to practice.
3. Each conte'stant will work with hi's or her own
clay u'sing any method de'sired.
4. A time limit will be cho'sen and all work will
stop when the bell ring's.
Why the change's?
Who care's how it's made... single piece or
assembly.
The only thing that concern's me is the end
re'sult... can you do it and earn a living doing it?
HEY, apostrophes ARE fun to put
in but you have to follow the rules.
1 as part of a contraction
2 to show possession when an "s" is added
to the end of a word.
Exception: it's and its kinda strange
Bottom line:
Earning a living in pottery is about the long
haul. About finding the best over all way to
make things using your strengths and using
the materials at hand. I much prefer making
large pots by assembly. I can throw 2 or 3
sections in a few minutes, dry the first while I
make the second, and assemble nice big pots
without reaching. (short arms, you know ;-)
In any case, claiming that the only
way to be great is to throw your way is a little
egocentric.

Tests for the World Championship:
---------------

Anyone who can make a full-time living as a potter is
already a champion. Contests, trophies, and titles are only
theory by comparison.

Well Dayton that List seems well awfully stuffy and not a whole lotta fun. I guess I was expecting
something along the lines of...

largest "pot" with ten pounds of clay. A vessel any shape just make it big
Fastest bowls like how many in a minute or five minutes.
I guess a tall skinny cylinder would be a good measure. 2 pounds
Maybe throwing all the part to a teapot. spout lid body

I feel that the time issue is very important to throwing for a living and teaching. A student can
only watch for so long. so maybe none of these should be over ten minutes. the time limit on a
youtube video is only ten minutes. No video cuts or puling away from the work and the potter.
Time starts when the clay hits the wheel. to stop the tmer the wheel needs to be ready for the
next pot of the kind that was made.

As for tools I use a torch it is part of my throwing style for certain works. I will do the large pot
twice with/and with out a torch. You whatever clay you want for each of the pieces makes no difference to me. we have a kitchen scale, I will do my best to make sure it works, I don't need to
cheat to lose.

I wasn't planning on betting money. I was hoping to bet you not saying "your way is the best" and
that as a group we are unprofessional or we are lazy or we people don't give you a chance
because you are better than them. Those kind of things would stop. You will have to play decent in
the clayart sandbox. Having different opinions is fine. Saying you are the king is not. If you win I
will call you my king.

Well let me know how that settles no I cant participate in any throwing olympics it sounds kind
silly as does this but if gets you to play nicer i am for it.
