slump mold from an ear of corn

Hi Deb,

I'm so sorry that I shook up your plans this semester. I promise not to
tell you about chains, or rope, or leaves, or weeds, straw mats, and another
of my favorites - lace doilies. One thing that will be coming up in a few
months - lily pads - way too much fun. You can spend a lifetime working
this fertile ground and never do it all.

A slump mold is like a stretcher frame for a painters canvas - it is the
starting point that everything else hangs on. It is important but not the
reason everything else is there.

In reference to your pending retirement - why wait. I was 50 when I opened
my studio and little gallery, I'll retire when they pry my cool dead hands
out of the clay.

Have fun!

Now why did Larry have to go and suggest using an ear of corn to make a
slump mold? Now I'm sitting here with ear of corn ideas zapping through
my head.

Remember those pots I wanted to throw this semester? Well, it's all
youse guys' faults that I won't have time because I'm playing with my
air pen, have tiles dancing in my head, need to find pea gravel and now
I have to think about using an ear of corn.

I'll have to tear apart a fall basket with a very dried ear of corn in
it. Hmmmm..... use corn as paddle? Use corn as rolling pin? Use corn as
slump mold? Use corn for plaster mold? Use corn for mold with handle on
it to put cool things on the pots I won't have time to throw?

I keep telling myself that retirement is only 11 years, 10 months and 3
weeks away.

I have a small pumpkin left from halloween that has shriveled up but
not rotted. The texture possibilities are what are distracting me!
Have got to get it rolled into some white clay SOON!
