waxed feet --cracked glazes - kiln atmosphere

The trick to using hot wax on feet is to never plunge the pot to
the bottom of the wax pan but to sort of float it on top of the wax
for a few seconds and let the wax seep up. You need to have
enough melted parafin in the pan to do this.

I suspect that iron oxide is more of a culprit than gerstley borate
causing the phenomina especially in a saturated iron glaze.

For what it's worth, when I fired the gas kiln at the Manchester
institute it always seemed to fire best on overcast days except
when it was very cold. I suspect it might also depend on how
high above sea level you are.

One more comment - Most of my glazes can be fired in either
oxidation or reduction, even reds which give me a beautiful
smooth blue or green in oxidation.
