proof of liability insurance, vendor

Clay artists,
Recently I sent for an application for Cambridge Pottery festival here in Wisconsin. On the list of requirements they have asked for proof of general liability insurance for the vendor's booth.
Is this liability insurance to cover damage of pottery or to cover any injured customers? I've never seen this requirement before. Do I contact my home owner insurance rep to get some temporary umbrella insurance for the show or what?

Hello Kathy:

All I know is what I know:) Being a senior citizen I found the Harford
with AARP to be the best insurance for our house then 2 years ago they
started offering home business insurance as a rider to the home insurance
so I took it costng me around $400 a year but covering my studio and also
my work in shipment and away from home plus a liability of $1,000,000
which should be sufficient for any show.

I did run into a show that needed insurance and this was sufficient. Some
smaller shows have no insurance even if they don't know that they need it.
and anyway it is your liability for the inside of your booth, no matter
what, so it is safer for chicken;) people like me to have this kind of
insurance.

Kathy,
This is becoming more common. It is in effect at the Peters Valley Craft
Show as well. What they are looking for is liability insurance in case
someone injures themselves in your booth, with your work, or you go postal
and take out others' booths, etc.
First, do you have a business insurance policy? If so, you may just be able
to call your insurance agent and have them send a cover sheet to the show.
If the show wants you to name them as an additional insured on your
liability policy, then you can get your agent to issue them one without
charge as well (at least in my experience).
If you don't have a business insurance policy (and if you're doing shows,
and selling work, I would think it is a must...how much of your assets do
you wish to risk if something unforeseen happens?), then perhaps you could
take out an umbrella policy, or put a rider on your personal insurance
policy that would cover a specific event.
At any rate, you need to contact the show to find out exactly what they
want, then contact your agent to see what you need to satisfy their
requirements.
