pittsburgh rooms

FYI...I spent bunch of time on the phone yesterday trying to get a room
close to the convention center. Talked to Acers. They said call NCECA.
Then called NCECA. Dori Nielson at the NCECA office said that they have
added to the block at the Omni twice and that the hotel will not add
again. The story from the Omni is that all they need is for NCECA to
call and add rooms to the block reserved. Anyway, no more Omni rooms.
The Doubletree still has rooms available at $119.00 a night. Dori said
it is across the street from the Omni.=20

The Doubletree's being across the street from the Omni MIGHT look that way
on a map, but you won't just walk across one street to get there. They
are CLOSE, but several very long blocks away, crossing heavily traveled city
streets. The Doubletree is uphill from the Omni.

I looked at the location of the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, PA
to be sure exactly where it is located. Open Goggle Maps and search under
"hotels in downtown Pittsburgh". Now, visualize that once you cross Grant
Street it's an uphill walk.

I believe you can enter the Omni from Grant Street, so it is NOT far away,
just not "across the street."

The hotel across the street from the David L Lawrence Convention Center, the
Westin Hotel at the Convention Center, is a little further from the Omni
than the Doubletree, but closer to the convention center , and it is a
reasonably level walk. The same is true for the Courtyard by Marriott which
is a good city block further away from both, but level.
