reduction at c.5

Oh, gee, back to the future.

About 15 years ago (?) there was this big push to lower firing temps to save
on fuel.

The battle cry of the day was "Neph Sy" and "everyone" suggested that
feldspar be replaced by Neph Sy. As far as I know it worked.

Furthermore: I fired my woodburning kiln to c.6 and got absolutely swell
results. I can only assume that reduction would work fine at c.6 in a gas
kiln, and see no reason not to do that.

Please remember that there is a good reason to fire to c.10 in a huge
monster kiln, because then the cool spots should reach c. 5 or 6. Unless
you have a huge monster kiln, and if you have all this fancy new technology
I would just plunge right in. OOPS! not into the kiln, you sillies,
into --dare I say it ?--TESTING.

Cooper's wonderful "The Potter's Book of Glaze Recipes" there are bunches
of glazes for c.5,6,7 that do this in oxidation and that in reduction...
