Something someone said about trying a very thin glaze rang a bell for me.

I remember seeing this on one of RIchard Zakin's earthenware pieces.
It was essentially unglazed but had a 'wet look'.

The 'glaze' was listed as Frit P54 90%, Borax 10%. The glaze was
sprayed onto bone dry ware and then it was once fired. It doesn't say
but I imagine it's quite thin.

The glaze darkens the body and gives it a slight sheen.

Remember, this is for earthenware!

I would suggest looking for a higher firing frit and something that
would work with what ever colors you want to use to sub for the P54
(which you might not be able to get anymore).

Looks like you have some experimentation to do.
