body for majolica

I have tried several commercial bodies for majolica (03-06 range) and have
found most to be rather short and rather difficult to throw even for
veterans. Does anyone have a recommendation? I teach beginning to
intermediate throwing at one of my local art centers and would like to add
this to our stable in order to bring more 2-D minded people into the clay
arena. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, if by short you mean not nearly as forgiving as that old favorite
stoneware that we alllearned to center and cylindar in 2 minutes, then i
would go for the highwater clay red earthenware. Get the clean stuff with n=
o
talc.

Miller 20 is not short, but throws alot more like porcelain than stoneware,=
.
It feels like highwater fills out a recipe with fire clay while miller fill=
s
it out with ball clay.

When i threw highwater, it took about 2 minutes to get use to throwing a ne=
w
clay body. Took me a few weeks to really get to know miller.

Incidentally, all my recipes migrated to the new clay body with no chemical
adjustments.
I perk.
Here is the highwater
