Thanks Helen,

I do have to sincerely apologize.....
my posting was meant to be sent to a potter friend who
is approaching 70 yrs old. We constantly poke fun at each other.
I hit send before I pasted his address in place of Clayart.
I acknowledge the legitimacy of the company and
again apologize.
And truthfully my friend could probably handle that job!
I sure couldn't!

I may be misreading Gail's comment as sarcasm; I hope so, because, whether
or not this position interests any of Clayart's readers, it is a legitimate
business.

Dear Clayarters

I have offered to post this job for Tina Kroll as there have not been any
suitable candidates here in South Africa. If you know of anyone suitable,
please pass this onto them. It would be a shame in this day & age to have
to close the factory due to lack of management. Interested people can
contact her directly.

Many thanks,

Tracey

To all of South Africa's Ceramic Professionals "Hello ...!"

Some of you will have received my recently circulated computer image,
advertising our "Ceramic Tile Manufacturing Business For
Sale". Unfortunately the response to this advertisement has been very poor.
I think I know why (...subject to correction...) : Ceramists in
SA feel more comfortable in the areas of art, teaching, sculpture, pottery,
etc and less at ease in the industrial manufacturing- and
business sector.

The major reason for us wanting to sell our business (apart from a lack of
finance) is that a ceramic business needs a ceramist to
successfully manage production. We have done our best to continue Peter
Kroll's legacy, but it has been like maintaining a surgery
without a doctor.

The shocked reaction of our clients to our intention of closing down, has
been very encouraging. We have therefore decided to sell the
company only as a last resort. We are presently in consultation with the
INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION as well as with
a private finance investment company and have had a very positive response
regarding a fresh start.
PK Tiles has so much potential and so much to offer! It would be a great
loss to South Africa to let it simply fade away.

However, for this new venture to become a success, the company needs the
full time involvement of an enthusiastic, dedicated,
responsible, experienced, qualified CERAMIC ENGINEER.

1) With the necessary financial injection of outside investment, we would be
able to make a business proposal (including
company shares) to a suitable candidate to join our team as PRODUCTION
MANAGER.

This position requires:
knowledge of chemical components of both clays and glazes
vacuum extrusion, cutting and firing of clay
changing of clay formulation if necessary
experience in flat surface glazing
development of new glazes
sourcing and testing of new glaze components
understanding of electrical kiln firing
temperature control
maintaining computer-based and regularly updated glaze records
(presently we have about 80 glaze formulas developed by Peter)
ensuring consistency of existing colours and textures
creating new corporate colours for franchise clients
supervision of ceramic art department e.g. paint techniques with majolica
and on-glaze, silkscreen, glaze separation techniques, mixing of art glazes,
etc
overseeing new art product development e.g.raku, surface textures,
sculpted tiles, special effects
ability to motivate and control our factory workers (10 to 20)
ensuring consistent quality control and customer satisfaction
maintaining an adequate stock of tile samples of the most popular range
setting in place and adhering to a production schedule
and at a later stage:
developing automated clay cutting
installing computerized kiln firing controls
and more ....

2) We would also like to employ an experienced, qualified, talented CERAMIC
ARTIST for:

freehand painting of large and small, interior and exterior ceramic murals
creating of new designs to be added to our existing range
proposing and executing innovative ideas
maintaining a tidy, functional art department
maintaining records of all art dept tests done
being responsible for the further training and guidance of an assistant BEE
Ceramic Artist
(who has been in our employ for many years and is experienced in freehand
painting
of repetitive motifs such as floral tile-corners, as well as in the art of
practical
ceramic silkscreening and filling in of painted areas).

If you feel interested, please arrange a meeting by contacting
Tina Kroll, Managing Member (+27 82 828 6202) or
Rob Cochrane, General Manager (+27 72 878 7467).

Although the positions advertised are not available until negotiations with
investors have been finalized, we would love to hear from you
as soon as possible. Remember that without the commitment of a Ceramist to
join our team, negotiations should not go ahead.

PETER KROLL DESIGNER TILES CC

Fax: +27 11 887 5389

P.S. If no suitable Production Manager can be found, PK Tiles will have no
option but to shut down. In that case please remember that
our BEE ceramic artist (and a number of ceramic experienced workers) will be
seeking new employment within the ceramic art world.
Our artist is a single mother and lives in Midrand. Any job offers can be
effected by contacting Tina Kroll at above numbers.
