If she painted the acrylic on a glazed tile, there is nothing to seal it.
It will eventually peel off, but if she painted the acrylic on a unsealed
tile (slate, bisque) she can use Thompson's water seal, or another
sealer. But....if this is behind the sink or on the floor or somewhere
there will be a lot of clean up, this too will have a limited time frame.

Is there any way she can repaint her design with a designer glaze and fire
them?? Mayco, Duncan & Gare all have wonderful glazes that are made for
glazed tiles, all she would have to do is repaint her artwork with this
paint, then fire - usually to cone 06 - and she will have something that
will last a whole lot longer.

Hope this helps some.

A friend of mine called yesterday and said she had just spent 7-8
hours painting a pattern on her tile in the kitchen. She did it with
acrylic paints and now wants to know how to seal it. I have no
idea. Does someone out there have an answer?

acrylic gel medium will give it a coating of clear drying protection. Acry=
lic paint on a glazed ceramic surface has a limit life span I'm afraid. Esp=
ecially in the kitchen or bathroom.

My 2 cents.

Dolita:
Tile floor? Tile backsplash? Tile countertop? Makes a difference, you know.
Minwax makes a product called "Poly-crylic", which is a water based
acrylic polyurethane.
It holds up well, and should not react with the acrylic paints your
friend used. Have her buy a
quart at the local hardware, and TEST paint ONE tile to try it. It
comes in both high gloss and satin,
goes on ever-so-slightly milky, then dries clear and bright. Decently
self-leveling too. We did all the
woodwork in our house with it. Two years later, it's still like new.
Best,

Thank you to all who responded on and off list. Right now my friend
is going with Wayne and Logan's suggestion of Minwax Poly-crylic.
She will test one tile first.
