red and down firing

thank you john for that good explanation.

i hope folks understand that when i down fire
red/it is just to make sure the cooling cycle is slow
and not rushed.

if you do not reduce properly....you could down fire
for a week and not get red. i hope i was clear about that.
i too believe that red is not a big deal. it is always the same
thing....good early/complete reduction and slow cooling...and yes....a
good recipe is important. i really like pete's cranberry on dark
iron bearing clay. and ron roy's suggestion to kick up the tin a
bit has really been helpful.
i can tell the difference. and, it sure makes a difference if the cone
is 10 or 11.

Good Point my friend,
hotter the better, in my opinion=2E
In my experience a struck kiln also helps to bring out the most brilliant
red on a white body=2E
Sorry but in my sunlight bright colors look the best!!
