Have only been on the list a couple of months and already have found it very
useful. Am looking for an out of print book "The Potter's Book of Glaze
Recipes" by Emmanual Cooper, published in 1980. Anyone have any ideas where
I could find this?
Have also had a problem wearing through the backs of my fingernails to the
bed underneath when turning the outer lip on plates. Help! Have only been
potting about two years and am mostly self taught, so obviously I am doing
something wrong. My fingers will thank you, if you can help with this.
You can email me if you do not want to answer on the list.

lists 2 Emmanuel Cooper books on glazes - I have the one
you mention but personally have found the "Potters Book of
Glaze recipes and Cl;ay Bodies" much more useful - again
available through the CPA (Ceramic Review)

Hmmm - sounds like your wheelhead needs a smoother surface - the
apocryphal story is told of a serious thrower at a famous english
pottery who faced his wheelhead with formica. Over to you.

Sorry to be a bringer of bad news but the Ceramic Review book of recipes is
also out of print, moreover our information is they're not going to re-print.
The more the pity, it was a very good seller (ever the little shopkeeper!!)

Regarding finding out-of-print ceramics books. Try a good used
bookstore. Many have search services. I have had the Ventura Book Mall
in Ventura CA find quite a few pottery books for me. Be aware that the
pricing depends on availability and demand so you may get a good price
or you may have to pay a premium. If you are willing to accept a book
in less than very good condition you may get a better deal - as with all
collecting, condition is everything. VBM isn't an art/ceramics specialty
boookstore but they have a very good search service. Hope this helps
everyone who is looking for out of print ceramice tomes....You will need
to supply as much info as you can, ISBN # usually isn't needed though.

Happy Potting from the Upper Mojave where it is finally beginning to
feel like Fall....Sam

Try writing to the publisher of Cooper's books:

B.T.Batsford Ltd.
4 Fitzhardinge Street
London W1H OAH
England

A newer edition (1987) of Cooper's glazes..."Book of Glaze Recipes" is
available in Great Britain. Not sure where you could find it in the States.
Try - The Potters Shop - in Needham, Massachusetts. They have a fairly
comprehensive book list and you could write to them for their catalog. Or
write to Batsford for the US bookshop nearest to you.

Good Luck,

Benevolent Clayarters:

Does anyone have a copy of "Ceramic Advertising:
Clip Art for Potters" that s/he would be willing to
share or sell? The book is currently out of print and
unavailable through The Usual Sources; Steven at The
Potter's Shop has already researched that for me, and
so far O/P searches on the internet have been
fruitless (though Powell's in Oregon has some
fascinating titles listed in their Ceramics
section...)
I am attempting to print up business cards, hangtags,
and such for an upcoming show that look as though they
have SOME vague relationship to pottery, hence the
search for the clipart to scan into this infernal
device--"paint" programs notwithstanding, a mouse is
not a brush.
Any help would be most appreciated!

knee-deep in snow in central NY, and apparently going
to "wear" cats until the stuff melts. Maybe I should
list my occupation as "cat furniture"....
