Thanks to all for the photos and diagrams of the JT Abernathy kiln.
I'm wondering whether a CO detector in the same room might not be in
alarm condition much of the time. I've already lost enough neurons!

Cheers, Linda

Venting/exhausting a fuel fired kiln inside the studio/building...
Makes one wonder about the wisdom in that...

My kiln is inside of the building but separated by a wall from the
rest of the studio. I have a hood over the kiln and two turbine vents
in the ceiling. I fire with the overhead doors opened one foot. In
the winter I can stand in front of the kiln and get warm. But, stand
off to the side and I'm cold. I've had this kiln in this room for
nearly 20 years with no problem.

We always have a working CO detector, but we seem to be clear. Of
course we have two fans exhausting out, another bringing fresh air
in, and an open vent door. During the warm months, we leave the kiln
door open, outside doors open, and shut off the intake fan. During
cold months, all the fans are on and the kiln room door is closed.

JT's indoor raku kiln is in a very leaky, cold, wet, falling down
building which he, incidentally, is in the process of vacating. He
will reside (for working) partly at the Potters Guild and also be
partly set up at a friend's studio.
