Hi Karen,

I've been busy but I thought there were some points I should add to this.

Bailey and Hewitt recommended the English and Turner set - which are what I use.

I have filled in some of the missing numbers by looking at other lists -
including the list in the Hamer book. The way I have done it is - if I can
find another material in another list that has the same value as one in the
English and Turner then I use that.

For instance Hamer lists PbO, NiO, Fe2O3, TiO2 and CeO2 as having similar
expansion rates so I have used the number for PbO (10.6) as a guide line to
get a number for Fe2O3 which is not included in the English and Turner set.
You can also see - if you look at the last set (Appen) that NiO, Fe2O3 and
CoO are close as they also are in the Mayer and Havas cubic set .

Not exactly scientific but I have gotten good results with my set most of
the time. I'll be happen to send the set if you want to try them. They come
with my TMT which you can download for the Insight site. Best to check the
expansion numbers against mine in any case - there have been some false
numbers showing up now and then.

See my answer to Ivor re which to use - linear or cubic - always linear!

Let me know if you have questions - RR
