x-ray film bats

Hi Lisa,
I asked at a local X-ray lab for any cast-off Xray film and was
kindly given quite a few sheets, @ 16" square. The best were the ones
with no 'silvering' on them. I washed them all, (wearing rubber gloves, as
I think some of the chemicals may be harmful) and then cut them into
circles. You can do any diameter that suits your needs; most of mine are @
4-6", which I can either attach to the wheelhead with a smear of clay, or
use to set new pots on as they're cut off the wheel. I can then move new
pots around without touching them.
The film does not warp, crack, weighs almost nothing, takes up
negligable storage space and is free. Also a snap to clean; they peel off
the bottom of pots cleanly as soon as you can pick up the pot, and any
residual clay just flakes off after it dries. I love them for throwing
mugs and other small items, but they can be used on tall/wide pots too by
sliding the bat onto a rigid board held level with the wheelhead
(carefully).Hope this is helpful.

chilly, but could be much worse.

Andi,
Thanks for this tip. WHat do you use to cut them with? How thick is the
film?
