new waterfall green results

Hi everyone,

I'm so glad I'm getting the daily digest again. I felt a little isolated
without it.

As some of you know, I've been trying to develop a Waterfall Green, based on
the WF Brown recipe in Ron and John's book. I've been corresponding with a
few people off-line regarding some of the tests I've been running. A couple
of people suggested I share those results, so here they are, on my blog:
http://wooditis.blogspot.com/

I think I'm getting pretty close, it's quite exciting.

That's the good news.

The bad news is- once again, I'm having kiln problems. I'm getting an error
message regarding my thermocouple. :( As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to
say- it's always something.

Jamie,

Your new waterfall colors are spectacular. I paticularly like the blues.
Would you be willing to share the colorant variations that produced them?

Arthur,

Almost all of my Waterfall experiments use the same 4 base ingredients, at
the same percentages in the book. Only the white version's base was tweaked
a little.

I have two blues- one I call J/R's Blue, for I wouldn't have found it
without the author's book. The other is called REAL blue because it jumps
right out at you. It's almost TOO blue.

For J/R's Blue - add 5% RIO and 1% Rutile
For REAL Blue - add 4% Copper Carb and .5% Cobalt Carb

Hope this helps!

Dear Jamie,

Many thanks. I'll try them out as soon as I can and let you know what I get.
(Don't be surprised if I take a while to get back, though: my 'day job' is
demanding, so my clay time is limited.)

Warm regards,

Arthur

Hi Jamie
I had written earlier but it did not go through, just after Clayart was
back.

I think your tests are very interesting and inspires me to try coloring
this base. If you would like to compare notes, you can send me the
colorants you have tried, I will test them as well as see what results I
get. In addition, I will make the 20 standard color tests I usually test
in a base. I know that you are looking for a green and maybe I will hit
one that you can work further with.

At the moment, I am just collecting info. because I am not in my studio
again until mid August. I am in New Jersey doing a lot of nothing. So
much surplus time and no studio leads to ... the poor house, well read,
visons of glazes dancing in my head, good eating... we shall see.

Best regards from Alisa
