firing with lids on

My answer would be YES, do fire the bisque with the lids on.

I learned from another potter to "grind" the lids of thrown round
pots, turning them on their galleries which not only shows up warping and
other discrepancies, but "sands off" bumps that might interfere with fit.

Even non round pots I would fire with lids on. I am convinced lids keep
pots from warping and the pots keep the lids from warping. I also fire with
the lids on in glaze fires.

There can be a problem with firing in a bisque firing with lids on - if the
clay is "dirty" the organics will have a hard time leaving and could be a
problem.

Not much movement in a bisque firing because the clay is only just starting
to move - usually a very small amount if any. You can check that out by
measuring between pots before and after a bisque firing.

I do believe it's a good idea in the glaze firing - the clay is melting and
shrinking so pots can go out of round if the lid is not there to keep it
round.
