Rogier,

I agree. The #1 Amaco wheel is a great teaching tool for beginners. I lea=
rned on one from George Roskos at PLU in 1967. It is a workhorse. Simple. =
As I remember limited speeds (3?) Just the ticket for a beginning potter.=
I have no clue as to the value of an old #1 wheel.

I got used to my Brent CXC in 1974 and I've gotten so used to it that I don=
't know if I could change. I've gotten used to the infinite speed control. =
and batt pins. I am too impatient to deal with a slow wheel.

BTW. The wheels here in China are Shimpo-like, except for the professional=
HUGE wheels that are most common in production shops. Knife switch on and =
off and a sliding belt drive system for speed control.

I have taught on many different wheels. The Stewart wheel is good.

The wood kickwheel I used at Paco Morante's Pottery in Puente Del Arthabisp=
o, Spain in 1969 was much toooo small for my large frame, but it's amazing =
what you can get used to after a few days.

The treadle Klopenstein stand-up wheel was great for demos. for students. A=
real dance with the clay! I hate the Shimpo that has the speed control o=
n the side of the unit. I'm too tall (and it 'kills' my knee) for that kin=
d of control to be comfortable for a day's throwing activities.

2 cents......

Happy potting!
