I just got these two announcements from Stephen Mickey in Oregon:

1. Jeff Oestreich will offer a slide lecture and workshop at Mt. Hood
Community College January 17 and 18. The slide lecture will be open to
the public and will accompany the reception for the ceramic show The
Flourishing Tradition: One Mentor -12 Paths at the schools visual
gallery . Jeff did undergraduate study with Warren Mackenzie and served
an apprenticeship with Bernard Leach at the Leach Pottery in England.
Jeff has been a studio potter for 25 years, has widely exhibited his
work in national galleries including the Garth Clark Gallery. His work
is well known and internationally collected. He will throw and assemble
his pieces as well as discuss the nature of his aesthetic concerns . The
question what makes a great pot will be covered. A major portfolio of
Jeffs work can be found in Ceramics Monthly May 1988.
His many workshops at Craft Centers around America are testimony to the
interest his work holds for other potters. Please join us for this
exciting workshop. Coffee and doughnuts will be served by the MHCC
Ceramic Club as a sacred offering to the Mingei Tradition Potters of the
Heartland. The Workshop is sponsored by the Oregon Potters association
and MHCC Ceramic Club( with contributions in kind). Costs are as
follows $25 for OPA members $35 for the general public and $15 for
students with ID. Send your check payable to MHCC Ceramic Club:

demonstrate the types of forms he makes and his way of solving problems
that may come up in the making. He will work individually with
participants suggesting ways for them to deal with problems they may
have been running into. Pots will be made all 4 days and either bisqued
or well wrapped unfired pots will be taken home this is one of only a
few workshops John is making this year. This Masters Class is intended
for the advanced potter who can throw reasonably well but is looking for
a boost to that next level.
