Is there a bad time to attend Arts and Crafts shows? From my experience
from after Mother's Day until the end of September is dead, dead, dead?

Randy:
1) In the rain, snow, a hurricane, tornado, earthquake or other severe
weather event.
2) When you and the spouse/partner/SO are arguing.
3) When you're bringing small, poorly behaved children or pets.
4) When you've left your wallet home or have maxxed out the credit
cards. (See #2 )
5) When you're drunk/high enough that you're staggering and incoherent.
6) When you applied, but did not get in. (that's just ASKING for trouble
)

I think anytime you attend a show you are promoting yourself for
present and FUTURE orders. Make your items fit the season.
Flowers/plants in pots during the summer and include the plant with the
sale; Easter grass in the spring, I use a lot of plastic fruit in my
bowls to show people the "function" since they see the beauty. I have
found much success in this method. I may not be 100% happy with every
show I go to but I have found, in the end, it's been worth doing since
special orders seem to find their way to me.

BUT please don't go if any of the reasons below fit you :)

Depends on where you are. The season is just getting started in Michigan
at Mother's Day. And before the economy here tanked it went strong all
the way to Christmas.

I agree with this. Here in the northeast, the vacation destinations are the
place to be: jersey shore, RI, Mass......

There are plenty of fair type things, depending on your work.

Make sure your work fit your area/region. My Eskimo figurines were
really hot items in Alaska but not worth a tinkers in Alabama. But
here, pots - especially my pots with the indiginous muscadine vine on
them are really hot. Every kid that ever grew up in the rural south
knows about the muscadine. Munched many in season. Ah, those childhood
memories - sells pots.
