I think that this "egg separator" is awesome. I just wish that I would
have thought of it first!!! I may buy a few for gifts for friends who
have enough money to buy anything they want. I am sure that they don't
have one of these!!! I wonder if it is really "handbuilt"????!!!!!

This has a gross-out factor of 15 on a scale of 10.

I didn't mean for anyone to actually BUY one! Now I've gone and done it.

In addition to being just plain fugly (I've never been a fan of face mugs,
or anything similar) - it's just NASTY. On the other hand, my sons, ages 6
and 10 would absolutely love it.

Everyone of the little boys I have in my aterschool group would think this is the coolest thing they have ever seen! If fact I will tell them about it tomorrow, will see how many produce one. I can see LOTS of wasted eggs if they do. Actually, when it comes time for the marathon Christmas cake baking and seperating 15 eggs at a time it might just come in handy.

Jeanette,

Thanks for the post and URL. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

I don't think I'll ever be able to make an egg separator. Unfortunately I
have a new mental image of separating whites from yokes.

I hate to admit it, but I have some things in a "local craftsmen" type
gallery that stocks a ton of these things. They actually have several
versions -- including one that lets the egg white drain out of a chicken's
ass. The owner tells me they sell like hotcakes.

Another good reason to keep art and design in public education.

Along the lines of the strange and unusual.... I was flipping the channels
on the TV in the middle of the night a while ago and saw Oprah, whose guest
was a Dr. Oz who answered your personal and potentially embarrassing
questions. (I still don't know why people who said they were too embarrassed
to ask their own doctors felt comfortable getting on national TV, using
their names and asking these questions. )

He held up a ceramic pot that looked like a personal size teapot, except the
spout stuck out more horizontally than a well designed teapot, and was
placed lower than you'd want on a teapot. He asked what it was.

The answer: a neti pot
This is used to run salt water through your nose to clean out the sinuses.

There's a demo video at:

It's another potential item for your line of hand made pots that I've not
seen discussed on clayart!

something else for sinus irrigation will help you enormously. Don't

I don't understand the problem with bud vases. My Japanese
language teacher just commissioned me to make two white vases for her
recently deceased daughter.

They are often used on Buddhist and Shinto altar/shrines.

Actually, my friend who get me started in pottery &, who helped the
Himalayan Institute ("The TooT", as he callled it) move form Illinois
to their present location also help set up their bookstore in NYC.
He was delegated the job of making these neti pots. They are
slipcast. Making these netis got him interested in making his own
pottery. A woman let him use her studio there in NYC and she had
books on Hamada, which got him interested in Hamada's work.

After he started working on the wheel, he started making
wheel thrown neti pots. They are very similar to sake pots, except
you make sure the spout is small enough for the nose. My wife Jean
introduced Dirk to Jerry Horning when Dirk came back to Omaha from The
Toot. When he said he liked Hamada pots, Jean said, "You have to
meet my friend Jerry Horning. He was Warren MacKenzie's first MFA
gratuate and MacKenzie is strongly influenced by Hamada." When I
met Jean, along with her McCoy, Van Briggle, Fiestaware and "American"
majolica collection, she collected Dirk Gillespie and MacKenzie's
work. When I met Jean in the basement of the Zen Center, first
thing she asked me was, "Are you a potter? You feel like a potter.
You remind me of my friend Dirk." That was the beginning for me.

You don't have to buy any kind of fancy mix to put in your
nose. Just use kosher salt. Dirk taught me to test the mix by
tasting it before you put it in the neti pot. It should taste like
tears.

I had sinus problems in the States. Sometimes infections.
Snorting golden seal power and the neti pot often helped when
antibiotics wouldn't
