Utah State University will sponsor a hands on workshop for advanced students
and professionals August 4 - 22 entitled "Wood Fire: Technique and
Aesthetics." Australian potter, Owen S. Rye, of the Gippsland Campus of Monash
University, will join me in leading the workshop. Upper division or graduate
college credit is available.

Owen's work has been featured in a number of articles and books. There is a
very good article in the current issue of "Ceramics: Technical," entitled
"Woodfiring Techniques." He's also featured in the May '94 issue of "Ceramics
Monthly," and issue 12 of Ceramics Art and Perception.

Registration info from 1-800-538-2663; university lodging info from

For those of you who can't spare three weeks in August, there will also be an
exhibition of Owen's work at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art on the USU
campus, with a public gallery talk scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday,
August 21

FWIW, I'm also scheduled to do a workshop entitled "The Art of the Teapot"
July 14 - 18 at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah. Details from Betsy
Quintana at the Kimball Art Center at 801-648-8882.
