Hi Gang,

One of my students (Marcel) is moving to Seattle & wants to continue taking pottery lessons somewhere in the "Pottery Northwest" vicinity. This young man (at least 21yrs. old) is a teachers dream student . Marcel is going to med school in Boston.. (my student the doctor) ;oD But is getting some of his classes here in Seattle first. He's only been working on the wheel for a month ( two lessons per week) & is a real sweet kid.
He just finished making his first batch of cylinders & is SO excited about learning to throw he asked me to help find him a place to continue to learn or at least a place to fire his work cause he is wants to keep working while at school.. He's been bitten so hard by the clay bug he's even willing to hand build until he can find a place to continue throwing lessons . I've given him a brochure for "Pottery Northwest" but I don't know enough about the place to say "just go there & everything will be fine" so I'm looking for alternatives in case that place doesn't pan out for him. Can anyone out there offer any suggestions?
Thanks !
Logan

Hi Logan -

How soon does this young man want to start?

Moshier Art Center (where I teach Thursday evenings) will start it's second
week of the spring quarter this week. Not sure what schedule other studios
are on.

Moshier is not exactly in the "Pottery Northwest" vicinity, but it's easy to
get to - 10 minutes from the airport.

Instruction is first-rate, the facility is stunning and parking is easy.

Let me know.

Vicki Hamilton
Millennia Antica Pottery
Seattle, WA - ooooooh, sunny & sorta warm today. Mow the lawn, perhaps?

Hi Logan, The Seattle area is full of great places to take ceramic
classes. Kirkland Arts Center, just aross the lake from Seattle.
Carrie Gustafason's place on 32nd Street in Ballard, Moshier in
Burien, Anderson Center in Edmonds, Seward Park Ceramic Center, as
well as a number of home studios. Have him check out the Washington
Potters Association website. There will be some good links for him
to check out as well. He can always go to Seattle Pottery Supply or
Clay Art Center (in TAcoma) they can give hime some good info as
well.

The structure of Pottery Northwest has recently changed. It used to
be that you could go and just work there, but now it a residency
program. If this person just wants classes, they still do that, but
if they want a cooperative or community studio environment, PNW is
not it.
