texture tool

I finally designed my own pottery texture tool that can be economically produced. I've posted here before links to pictures of my work, which is usually textured pots. I've added to posts here on texture using found items like toy truck tires, etc. Now I make cool texture tools.

Since my "day job" is a mechanical engineer I've had access to computer solid modeling, CAD computer aided design software. I created some cool looking pottery tools on the computer. I also had access to the Start Trek replicator type "3D Printers" that now exist & printed out many tools. I made awesome clay texture tools for myself! ~ that can't be manufactured economically…

I finally came up with a simple way of re-designing the wheel to apply texture to pots that come close to the CAD tools I've used. www.graberspottery.com

It's a roller like a roulette, but with deep teeth so it doesn't clog up. A gear made for clay rather then a found gear applied to claywork. Several disks per wheel assembly enables the user to configure their tool any which way they want to get whatever texture you want.
Stack the disks in line, you get one result. Stack with spacers, get something else. Cut off every other tooth & get something else. Stack them in a helix (left or right), get still more results.

My website isn't quite set up for the shopping cart yet, but if anyone wants to use snail mail (checks) or paypal we can work something out. The paypal e-mail would be SLgraber@aol.com

I rate my throwing as maybe a six (6.0, former gymnast here). I REALLY want to see how potters with an 8, 9, or 10 throwing styles can use my tool for results I never dreamed of! I will post pictures on my website of people's results as they get sent to me. I also want to see more textured pots in the backgrounds of TV shows & movies. ~ my work will likely not get there…

I just got my "Steve Tool" and I think it is great! I quickly put together
3 wheels that were offset from one another by a half spoke with washers in
between each wheel and instantly was able to make a wonderful weave pattern.=

It it is so easy to work with and there seem to be endless possibilities.
Really cool work Steve!
