need a skutt electric kiln switch

I need a three-position switch for a skutt 1227 240 v manual electric
kiln - I know that kiln suppliers sell them but they are pretty spendy
and my guess is that they could be obtained from an
industrial/electrical supplier if you know where to go for a lot
cheaper. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

Do you mean the Skutt part #0104? Retail price is $33.00. Although
you probably could get them cheaper from an electrical supplier, but
I would worry about getting a switch from someplace else that can
handle the amperage of a 1227. My personal opinion is that it's
better to spend the extra money and get the part you know is designed
to go in your kiln. You might ask your local supplier if they offer
any discounts on parts, some do. You could probably expect to knock
off about $3.00 on the price from some suppliers. If you do decide
to go to an electrical supply, in this area we have a company called
Stanions. I have no idea if that is a national chain, but I know
they do carry the right switch (along with about 20 or so others that
won't work). Make sure you are very specific about what you need,
and if you have any doubts, call a good kiln tech to help you decipher.
Hope that helps
Cindy

Paul,

Check out Stove switches on Google. Then dig in for standard oven or
electric stove top switches.. I think Vince posted this suggestion years
ago, we did it and quit using manufacturer switches years ago. Rarely have
one fail now. Divide the amperage of the kiln by the number of element
circuits to get an idea of the amps per element. Add some for leeway.

Oh yes, Cindy's right, they're much cheaper from the parts suppliers than
from the kiln manufacturers.
