Janet,

There are multiple Smithsonian locations where you'll see great pots from
time to time: The Renwick Gallery (their crafts museum), the Freer
Gallery (mostly Asian work, I think), the Gallery of African American art,
and the Sackler Gallery. All are located in the general vicinity of "the
mall", though I can't give you exact directions. I have no idea what
exhibits are there right now.

In Georgetown there's a small gallery called The American Hand. It's right
on the main drag (M Street?). They don't have a lot of work, but you might
see a couple of nice pots there. There's another small place called the
Anton Gallery (location?), which had some work by Rob Barnard and Byron
Temple last fall, but they don't often have pots. I've heard of the Jackie
Chalkley galleries, but have never been. There used to be a couple of
others, but they sank. Make sure to call ahead.

Maybe Malcolm Davis will chip in with some ideas. He's a local. Malcolm,
are you there?

Best of luck. Al Schlimm (who just bought a Ford F-150 pickup to carry
all the wood to fire in the kiln he's dreaming of building one day.)

Please also note that I have organised the following:

Exhibition: "Ceramic Sculpture Invitational: Go Figure"
Sponsor: Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, Art Bldg.
Location: 51 Mannakee Street
Rockville, MD 20850
301-279-5115
Opening/Closing
Dates: Opens: Monday, Feruary 17 - Closes: Friday March 7
Artists: Donna Polseno, Sergei Isupov, Marilyn Lysohir, Kirk
Mangus, Patrick Siler

There is a major exhibition of imperial Chinese art a the East Wing of
the National Gallery from the Taiwanese (Free China) collection. The Freer
has an "Invitation to Tea" show about tea ceremony wares and the Renwick
has permanent collection (predictable fare) on view.

Keep in mind that you can call the Freer in advance and schedule a visit
to their stored collection...You may handle the work and basically drool.
I highly recommend it. Salivation is good for the soul.

For Supplies and to see an occasional show, go by Pine Ridge Pottery in
the Springfield-Alexandria Area just off of I95 and Edsell Rd on
General Washington Drive. Nice Place
