view from the wheel

Friends in Clay -

I am also very blessed with the view from my wheel even though I am -
literally - a Chicken Coop potter! My very supportive potterspouse gave up
his woodwork shop, aka chicken coop, for my pottery. (Not only that, but he
insulated and put in a furnace to boot!)

But the view! Our home is on several acres atop a ridge overlooking a
valley. From my wheel I have views of woodland to the west which slopes to
a small pond, a barely-budding orchard/vinyard to the east with woods
beyond, about 150 yards to the north I can glimpse our home beyond
vegetable/herb/flower gardens and grassy space, and although I cannot see to
the south from my wheel, there is a sweet guest cottage a few steps beyond
the coop (often available to potters passing through St. Louis).

Wildlife abounds - turkey, deer, foxes, rabbits, birds of all variety from
cardinals and bluebirds to great blue herons, hawks and owls. Glorious
sunsets are the gift of evening.

It is a wonderful space to be able to call my own - chicken coop or no and I
know I am blessed.

However, push to shove, I would pot in a basement with no view rather than
take my hands away from the clay!

Mary, at work in the city, when I wish I was at work in my coop!

ps - not to worry re the sweet potterspouse and his wood workshop - he is
busily drafting plans to build a new space of his own!
