Vale Joan Campbell

It is with considerable personal sadness that I have to announce the death
of Joan Campbell. A lot of our Australian pottery community will have been
made aware that Joan was ill by Sandra Black's efforts to organise a
presentation folder of peer letters in conjunction with a special medal
being struck for Joan by the Australia Council.

An early specialist in Raku, Joan was a seminal figure in Australian and
West Australian ceramics. Anyone who met or heard her was immediately
inspired by her energy and enthusiasm. At multiple National Ceramic
Conferences her speeches and demonstrations were always the ones that
lasted with you when you returned to the studio to work.

Joan Campbell was, in a creative community filled with inflated egos, a
genuinely humble and generous person who gave more than she received.

To her family and friends the Potters' Society of Australia extends our
sincerest sympathy.

Our community is a lesser place for her loss.

Best wishes

Leo

Sue and I wish to send our condolences to the Australian ceramics
community and to everyone else who knew Joan Campbell. We have all lost
a cherished member of the family, and I have lost a soul mate. Bon
Voyage, Joan.

With Love,
Harvey Sadow
