Hi Amy;
All the instruction books on throwing clay that I have seen are good, but
for me the best thing for beginning learning has been the videos I bought.
I love my video tapes. They are better than a workshop as you get to see
right inside the pots as they are being made, something you can't do at a
workshop. I have all the Stephen Jepson tapes and the Robin Hopper
functional series and both are excellent. For the large forms in
particular, and how to center a large ball, and how to attach pieces made
in several pieces, the Stephen Jepson large form tape is excellent. He
shows many different approaches to the large form, and all the techniques
he uses can be used on a smaller scale. I also work alone every day and the
winters here are damn long, and I pop in a tape, whether I am looking for
anything particular or not and Stephen and I will throw away like mad all
morning. It's amazing to me after the number of times I have listened to
these tapes, that I will suddenly become aware of something, I either
missed or thought was unimportant. I have found the tapes are pretty close
in comparitive price to the books, in fact, I have nearly fainted at the
price of some of the instruction book prices here in Canada. Many of the
books I have I managed to pick up at garage sales, estate sales, etc. so
many are oldy but goodies.

The golden years have come at last, I cannot see, I cannot pee,
I cannot chew, I cannot screw. My memory shrinks, my hearing stinks.
No sense of smell, I look like hell. My body drooping, got trouble pooping.
The golden years have come at last, The golden years can kiss my Ass.
