I want some pots to come and talk to my electrically fired pots too; and what
is the veldt?

The veld (no 't' necessary) is the open savannah, or else the 'wild' part
of Africa. Every heard of Jock of the Bushveld?

Joanna,
I'd love to, but do you have a 1001 nights? It is a looong and
wonderful story, well worh the hunt you might have to find it.
It is abot a young Irishman seeking his fortune in the early days
of South Africa and his charming, rakish and faithful companion Jock
a bull Terrier. The author is Sir Percy Fitzpatrick.A true story.
There is a bronze statue in memory of Jock in Barberton one of the
early goldfields.
