We still have some spots available .....

Brookgreen Gardens
Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Friday, Oct. 31, 7:30-9:30 p.m. (slide show and reception)
Saturday, Nov. 1, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Join us at beautiful Brookgreen Gardens for a weekend of raku led by
Steven Branfman. We will begin with a slide show/reception on the
Friday evening before the workshop. The next day, Steven will
demonstrate his throwing and decorative techniques including throwing
off the hump, throwing large forms, coil and throw, and texturing and
surface manipulation processes which include applications of materials
to the surfaces and expanding forms from the inside. Steven will also
demonstrate his unusual process of using crushed glass on the outside of
pots while continuing to throw them from the inside. Saturday will
conclude with a glazing and firing demo. Sunday morning will continue
with more demonstrations by Steven, after which participants will glaze
bisqueware brought in from home. The workshop will finish with
participants rakuing their ware in one of four fiber kilns as well as in
a softbrick raku kiln that will allow for salting during firing.

Brookgreen Gardens is located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the
Atlantic Ocean on the site of four former colonial rice plantations.
Brookgreen Gardens contains the largest outdoor collection of American
figurative sculpture in the world, as well as beautiful formal gardens.
This area of coastal South Carolina is rich in history and natural
beauty, and offers other diversions such as golf, shopping, fishing,
crabbing, shrimping, and of course, wonderful beaches. Plenty of
hotels, motels, and campgrounds are available in the area.

Notes:
* Bring in bisqueware to be fired.
* Box lunches will be available for $5.00 apiece on Saturday and
Sunday, or you may choose to eat in the restaurant on campus.
* My husband and I will be hosting an oyster roast at the beach Saturday
evening, details will be found in your confirmation notice.
* I will be happy to help Clayarters find accommodations, or at
least point them in the right direction.

Corrections:

That dang ole spellchecker, I should really do what it tells me.

Also, I did not mention prices:
$105.00 for members of Brookgreen Gardens
$140.00 for non members
(price includes a one year membership to Brookgreen Gardens, and special
rates for future workshops...for example...Mel Jacobson will be here in
March 1998)

Sorry for the omission,
Lri
