source for cabinet knob inserts?

updated thu 31 oct 96

I've started making some drawer pulls, epoxying metal inserts (female end)
into the pulls after firing. I have been getting a limited supply from my
local Ace Hardware, but I need to find more. I am currently using a 8/32
thread.

Any info on suppliers/manufacturers would be appreciated.

Thanks--Steve

Threaded inserts, also known as knife edged inserts are available from a
wide variety of suppliers both for the wood working indeustry as well as my
all time best source for everything you could possibly need-McMaster Carr
Supply Co., Chicago Illinois. I cast knobs and supply them in bisque for a
client and supply the client with the inserts as well. The knobs are
glazed, fired, and then the inserts are epoxied in.

Mc Master Carr Supply is an extremely large industrial supply house with a
catalog that probably weighs 20 popunds or so. You need an account with
them to purchase. McMaster Carr Supply Co.

On the rare occasions i do this I fill the insert w/wax to keep the epoxy
out. I used 2 part epoxy in a tube last. It failed after about a month
(porcelain, no tooth to grab onto). Planning to try liquid next but I'll
end up with it in my hair ... with various pieces of hardware permanently
epoxied in. ... I once was responsible for accidentally super gluing the
dogs toes together ... *that* was an interesting day....
