Dan..This is the second time that "soap" has been a quary.

There are many ready made shapes available from industrial brick makers such
as APGreen. It refers to a ceramic brick that is 9"long 2 1/2" thick and 2
1/4" wide. Its great for constructing kilns as well as a shape to cut up to
get solid strong kiln furniture. If you cut the 9" lenght, say in half, you
get two posts 4 1/2" high. Or cut it at 2" you will have a 2"post and a 7"
post. Actually you will loose the thickness of the cutting blade, usually
1/8". Since these bricks come in the heat ranges for hard brick, Low, Med,
High, and Super duty, I usually have mine cut from high or super duty. They
will last forever and you usually can buy and have the soaps cut for less
than the usual commercial kiln furniture found in our clay supplier's
inventory. Also the soap furniture is a little more stable when stacking
high shelf loads being a little larger than the commercial stuff.

Check out getting the "A P Green Refractory Pocket Catalog" Mexico,
Missouri, USA
Great information on Arches and refraactory materials. Watch out. Be sure
you select the proper brick thickness when using the charts and I have always
used the 2.302" rise per foot of span chart on page 160. The charts give
great information...span, rise, inside radius and the brick shapes needed.

Hope this information will help.
