Hi,

I just paid a deposit for the following two items..being my first serious
purchases for pottery equipment. Any advise from users who have used/tried
the kiln and wheel I am thinking of purchaasing will be much appreciated.

1. Skutts 1018 with the EnviroVent. for USD$2000.00

2. Shimpo Wheel - Model RK- 88 for USD 1000.00

Are these equipment all right for beginners? and are there any known
'hiccups' with them? I have been given some time to change my mind on the
purchases if I have any doubts. PLEASE ADVISE!!

Thank you...

Jan,
I can't be much help with the wheel but, Skutt makes a good kiln and
they have always been very helpfull with any questions I've had. Before
you actually buy check out the prices from Bennett's Pottery the number
there is 800-432-0074. With large scale purchases I have always found
them to beat all others. Just for comparison I paid less than half of
the price you quoted, for my KM1027 (no EnviroVent). Shipping charges
were also real resonable. They also have the greatest customer service.
My first Skutt KM1027 kiln arrived damaged. They made arrangements for
my replacement kiln to be shipped out before they even picked up the
damaged one.

I hope this did'nt sound like a comercial advertisement, but when we
find a good source I thing we should give high praise and pass it on.

Back to the clay,
Lori Lynn

Jan, I have used a Shimpo wheel for the past 20 years. The same one without
ANY repairs at all. Just purchased my second Shimpo wheel, one for white clay
and one for red clay. Expect the same performance with the second wheel. I
love Shimpos.
