The ceramics dept at Idaho State University used soft brick in their salt
kiln. The brick was brand new and was coated before any firings. The brick
deteriorates extremely fast. I certainly do not recommend its use
especially due to the high cost of soft brick. Another college here in
Idaho uses hard brick and they have much better luck with the brick
surviving multiple firings every year. Good luck.
