What is rutile flour? It is an ingredient in two recipes posted today.

Am posting this inquiry again. Does anyone know what rutile flour is? This
was an ingredient listed in two glazes? Was it some sort of typo error?

Hi Laurie,

I'm sure it is just powdered Rutile - as opposed to granular.

Laurie,
Rutile is natural Titanium Dioxide which can contain up to 15% iron
oxide which gives it a yellowish colour. According to other ingredients
it can produce colours ranging from bright creams and oranges to yellow
greens etc. (Hamer & Hamer 2nd edition P275) Flour means fine powder.

Rutile is the mineral form of TiO2 Titanium Di oxide. The pulverised form is
called flour.

Hey Jim:

If you'll indulge my nit picking, Rutile is ONE titanium bearing mineral,
which contains trace amounts of iron as well. Anatase is the purer Titanium
bearing mineral, and the one that is used in the processing of Titanium
Dioxide. The third Titanium bearing mineral is Brookite and I don't have
any knowledge of what it is used for.
