Bill, Harold, and all,

I don't know if I ever posted this underglaze recipe we've been using for a
large ceramic mural project. Some time ago I sent in a post looking for an
underglaze recipe my ceramics prof remembered seeing--one that contained
liquid laundry starch. Eventually it surfaced when a former ceramics lab
technician found it in her notes. It doesn't add up to 100% but that's the
way it is and it works! it works nonetheless. Here it is:

30 Frit 3124
30 EPK
30 Mason (or other brand) Stain (or combination of stains equalling 30%)

To this I added 3 coffee measuring spoons of Sta-Flo laundry starch to give
a consistency of slightly thin yogurt. The mixture was passed through an 80
mesh sieve to blend (a 60 mesh would probably be fine, but I didn't have
one). The only colors I've had to alter from the above ratios have been the
dark blues and dark purples (too dark), and the red (too translucent).
The colors flow nicely and coverage is very good. We're using a clear gloss
cone 04 glaze on top.

Try it, I think you'll like it!
