This was written by E.D.Blodgett, then-husband poet of a potter: a poeter.

After Lao Tzu

How does a bowl acquire
shape? Its form it takes
from water, mud and fire;
its centre never breaks:
being empty it aches.

A good friend, who is a calligrapher and knows me well, gave this as a gift:

Clay is molded
to make a vessel
but the utility of the vessel
lies in
the space
where there is nothing...
Thus,
taking advantage of
what is,
we recognize the utility of
what is not.
