plainsman overglaze medium

Maybe Tony Hansen will answer your inquiry but if he doesn't, the Plainsman
overglaze medium for use at cone 6 follows. It is formulated to have enough
calcium that the reds and pinks develop. The colours still act differently
depending on what base glaze is used. (We use it at our Guild with several
white/clear glazes.) But recently I did try Tony's all purpose cone 6 glaze
- on the digitalfire site (http://digitalfire.com) and am very happy with
the colours as they have turned out a little above cone 5.

There is/was a publication about use of Mason's stains with this medium but
I don't have it at hand. I believe that colours such as reds, pinks,
yellow, are added in a 1:1 ratio by volume. Mazerine blue, black and leaf
green(?) are more like 1:2 stain to medium. (This could bear confirmation,
though.)

How is this overglaze used? Is it mixed with a stain and brushed on top of
fired or unfired glaze? Thanks JoAnn Axford
