I need some help! A Nils Lou kiln-building workshop was on the list a
bit ago to take place in Fresno, California. I did not respond nor did
I save the message because I did not intend ever to build a kiln. Well,
my number one support person does have such an interest, it turns out,
and he's upset with me for deleting one of the few messages in which he
has had an interest. Oh, dear! Is there a Clayarter who knows the dates
and contact person for this workshop. If so, please e-mail me so I can
get back in his very good graces. Thank you.

In the Mojave thinking of all the marvelous deeds my support person has
done for me (I'm sure he will read this so...major sucking up.)

Here is the information on the kiln building workshop with Nils Lou. I
talked to Lynn today and she said 15 people have contacted her about
attending, so it seems that if you want to attend you should make contact
with her some time soon. Also Nils said; starting time is Saturday at
8:00 a.m. The
talks will be on going through out the day and the slides will be
Saturday
Night after dinner.

Nils Lou will oversee and guide the construction of a new Minnesota Flat
Top
Kiln during a three day workshop in Oct. Saturday, Sunday,
(Monday-Columbus
day) Oct. 11-12-13, 1997. The location will be at the studio of Potter
and
sculpture Lynn Rank. She lives and works in the central Sierra Nevada
Mountain community of Auberry, California.

Nils will give slide shows and talks as work on the kiln progresses. This
will be a hands on opportunity for anyone who would like to learn the art
of
kiln construction. Learn from a master kiln designer and builder. Spend
three days in the mountains with potters, clay artist, and students of
the
ceramic arts. You will have the opportunity to ask all the questions and
get
answers from an expert.

The workshop will only be available to 30 people so make contact with
Lynn
and Bob Rank as soon as you can commit. The fee will be $75.00 for the
three
days, all or part depending on your time constraints. There will be room
for
some camping at the workshop sight, campers can come on Friday the 10th
and
there are state park, and national forest camp sights in the area. For
folks
who like to sleep in a bed, motels are 30 to 45 minuets away in Clovis
and
Fresno, or up in Shaver Lake, 15 minutes away, a little farther into the
mountains.

Write to: Lynn Rank, 34323 Tollhouse Rd., Auberry, California 93607-9727,
or
call (209) 841-3482, or E-mail BOB_RANK@MSN.COM

Here's an update on the kiln building workshop. It looks like if it
flies, it will be the 2nd or 3rd weekend in February. Cost will be
$150.00 for a 2 1/2 day workshop; Friday afternoon and all day Saturday
and Sunday. I still have to check with Nils to see if these weekends
will work out. I'm not looking to make any money on the workshop, but
hopefully could cover having Nils come. The cost can be cut if we can
fill the workshop (down to $100). Keep in touch if you're interested.
