Hello Clayarters. I'm happy to announce the completion of my Ceramic
Homepage and invite you all to stop by for a visit. I tried to personalize
it somewhat and have some fun with this new technology. I hope you enjoy it
as much as I enjoyed making it. In some respects, its almost like having a
baby and at times just as painful. I want to thank Clayarter, Jim Speers of
Alberta Canada, for his help in the 'delivery room', thanks again Jim.

Dear Clayart subscribers

I have just launched a new web site about my work. This was created and
hosted by my son Tobias. I would value your impressions privately or
online. The web address is http://www.ameoba.net/demaine

Just had to announce the birth of a new webpage. It's the first one I've
ever done, but after a week of total immersion (read: little sleep,
many, many coffee nibs) it worked! Last week I didn't know the
difference between a gif and a jpeg, let alone what to do with them, so
I am pretty proud, and now know it IS POSSIBLE!

The site is for Alchemie Studio, which is Laird Plumleigh and myself.
At Alchemie I do a lot of the sculpting, glazing and tile setting, as
well as the mattybirds and lanterns. More stuff will follow.

So hope some of you check it out. I do appreciate feedback, as I'm still
a greenhorn. the email address on the page comes to me. There's still a
LOT of work to be done on the site. Many of the pages are under
construction still.

To get the site up and running a fellow CLAYARTER came to the rescue
with a digital camera and WOW! My undying thanks and gratitude to him.
It's so cool not having to buy film or wait for it to be developed to
see the result.

site is at

I'm presenting my new web site www.eartharrangements.com for a clayart =
critical shake down review/criticism. I've gone to my source of friends =
and have come up short on helpful hints. "Nice Site" does not help to =
get the bugs out.=20

I plan on putting ads in magazines that cater to people who would be =
attracted to my work but are not necessarily art buyers. I also would =
hope that galleries, that I contact, can take a look at my work on my =
site to see if it will work in their setting.

With clayart being in the funk mood it is lately, I should be able to =
get plenty of helpful CRITICISM.=20

Also, I would appreciate if some one could give me a an approximate =
price on what it would cost to put together a site like mine. The =
person who designed my site did it as a favor. I would like to find a =
way to repay his kindness and wouldn't want to undervalue his work =
through ignorance of prices in his field.

The design of the page is pleasant enough and it loads moderately quickly.
I'm wondering about using smaller thumbnails of the works that are hotlinks to
larger versions of the photos. Then the page will load all the faster... especially
if the thumbnails are interlaced .fig files.

The only other substantive comment I have is that some/most of the pictures do not help me
get a sense of the scale of the works. You've presented without captions and
sometimes the captions (describing size and technical aspects such as clay body and
cone to which it was fired, etc) help in the establishing both a sense of scale and,
to a potential customer, value.

I'm the wrong one to ask about the value of putting up a website. I design my own
and figure if I can do it, anyone can (overstatement, but...). A friend who does such
things for a living tells me he charges his clients an averabe of $60/hour. How
long it takes to design/test/perfect a website varies on how complicated/whizbang
it is.

It's a very, very nice site. Very involving and nicely designed.

This has 11 original page designs... and then extensions from there. Plus copy and photography. Each page design could take three to ten hours including technology considerations. Most designers charge 50 to 150 bucks an hour... photography is 80 to 300 bucks per photography or a daily rate of 300-500. There's
probably 20 hours of copywriting at 30-60 an hour. And finally there's the time for a sitebuilder. Someone to write the code. This site looks like it was hand-coded so that's a days work at a minimum... site builders charge 50-80 bucks an hour....

get out your calculator.

Nice site - oops sorry..... Good clean images, not sure about the change to
use of frames within some parts of the site, not others, fairly consistent
layout.

as for cost, in UK you can pay £25 to £45 an hour for something like that -
it's the better part of a day's work or thereabouts, assuming not too much
needed doing to the images

Hope this helps

your web site is SWELL... and your work is even SWELLER.

i'm fascinated with your stupas.

i've been drawing garden totems for ages... though smaller than yours... i have a tiny house on a tiny lot...

here's my dilemna... no one i know locally has a clue about the technical aspects of making these.

for example...

i work with stoneware at cone 10. for taller totems, i was thinking of putting holes in top / bottom of each form, then threading them on to a pole.

for shorter forms, i thought of puting stones in bottom form as a weight, then somehow gluing them together.

yup... i have NO idea what i'm doing. and i have no idea if these things will survive left outside.

if you have any tips... and any time... please let me know.

or if you can point me in the direction of articles, books, whatever, let me know.

thanks for all your help. and for your great website.

Dear Clayarters.

I have finally created a web page to offer my services. With the help of a
computer savvy consultant and critiques by friends, we have ventured into
cyberspace. What a trip!!!. Thank you for looking.

Bonnie Staffel, of Charlevoix, MI, where we are having our first and rare
heat wave of the summer.

Hi Everyone!

I have moved and redesigned my web page. It is still a work in progress and
not all links are working; but the home page, the first gallery page, 4 pages
of c6 test tiles with some recipes and a links page are up.
I finally gave up on AOL's easy designer and 123 software and got myself
Frontpage2002, and it a far superior, easy to use, flexible program.

Here's the URL:

http://www.angelfire.com/art2/shambhalapottery/index.html

I'd appreciate any input about viewing errors, etc. I'm a neophyte at this
and I'm learning as I go!

I'll be getting rid of the other page at AOL, but I'll try to put a note on
there with the address of the new page. My main concern is that the text may
be too wide on some page. It works fine on my 15" screen but I'd love to know
if anyone with a smaller screen is having problems with it.

Warm regards,
June Perry

New Web Page

I just had a new web portfolio created at
the following link: www.bobbruch.com

There is one series of extruded geometrical
forms and another that are hand built vessels.
The white work is made with a cone 6 white
stoneware and the pieces with various colors
are made with a dark brown cone 6 stoneware.
All of this work has been fired at cone 6 oxidation
inan electric kiln.

I would welcome any comments and constructive
criticisms.
