This is pretty vague, but I was in New Orleans a couple of years ago and
stumbled on to two places. In one of the really big business-class hotels
near the river (a Hilton maybe, maybe not?) there were several retail shops
on the first floor. One was a craft gallery that had some nice work, both
sculptural and functional. The other place I found was an Asian crafts
gallery located somewhere in the touristy area around Bourbon Street. They
had a lot of porcelain with cobalt decoration, but also had some really
nice slab pots, salt-fired, by a Japanese potter. Pretty cool. Wish I
could be more specific. Good luck and enjoy the humidity.
