We cast kitchen knobs for a customer and after finishing and drying, place
them in a rubber chuck in the drill press, and drill out the stem the
accept a brass
insert that has the corresponding screw threads on the inside for the screw
attatchment and is also threaded on the outside. These are used by
woodworkers and cabinet makers and also for knockdown furniture. The hole
is oversized for the shrinkage of the clay.

After decorating, the hole int he know is given a shot of epoxy and the
inset is fully seated. TO prevent the glue from entering the inside of the
insert, a small bit of modeling clay covers the inside hole.
