First off: I've put a copy of the article in the mail to you. In addition,
I am sending a four-page summary of chronic manganese toxicity from the US
EPA. I apologize for the teeny tiny print, but the technical data is worth
the squint. Elke's article is human and real, the EPA is cold, rock hard
science--a good balance.

I guess because we get about 30 inquiries a day here, I mistakenly think that
everyone knows about Arts, Crafts and Theater Safety, Inc. ACTS is a small
non-profit that provides health and safety information, referrals, consults,
lectures, courses, OSHA (US) and OHSA (Canada) compliance surveys and
training, building planning and ventilation advice, and similar safety
services.

I started in this field in 1977 when I was one of the founders of the Center
for Safety in the Arts. I left them after 10 years to set up ACTS. ACTS
is an improvement over CSA because we do not have the same constant financial
problems. This is due in part to low overhead (we all work from our own
home offices). We make our money from below market fees for services,
*unsolicited* donations (we don't beg for money), and sale of publications
(although I provide stuff free if people really want it--as most of the
Clayart-manganese-article-recipients know!).

Personally, I am a chemist & industrial hygienist who also has an MFA
(majors in ceramics/glassblowing) and ran my own pottery studio for about 20
years. I've written 6 books on the subject including a small one for NCECA
that I think you all should have. It's called Keeping Clay Work Safe and
Legal. I don't get $$ for this so I can plug it in good conscience! Call
800/99NCECA and ask about it.

And anyone from Clayart who forwards a message to me will get an answer. I
can either make it private or post it to Clayart--which ever you'd like.
