looking for tenmoku recipes

Does anyone have some tenmoku recipes that they would recommend for stoneware?
I'm seeking food safe tenmoku glazes for tableware. I'm interested in a good
oilspot, hare's fur, and nice tenmoku glazes. If you have any suggestions on
reference books that would contain these recipes, or the recipes themselves, I'd
appreciate your assistance.

Thanks!

I have tied a number of tenmoku recipes, but the best I have ever used is a
Laguna premix. It is a a plum brown that interacts well with other glazes to
produce black and iron green surfaces. Good luck.

Mike Bailey and I did some work on Oil Spot Glazes which was published
in Ceramic Review No.147, May/June 1994. If you can get sight of a copy
this may help you. If this is not possible please email me and I will
let you have the recipes it contains.

Hi Lisa,
The following ar two Tenmoku's that I have used with continued
success.

Black Tenmoku. Cone 9-10

Potash Feldspar 52
Whiting 14
Kaolin 6
Silica 19
Red Iron Ox. 9
This glaze fires to a deep black breaking to red on rims at cone 10.

Iron Rust Cone 9-10
Potash Feldspar 45
Whiting 17
Kaolin 13
Silica 23
Red Iron Ox. 13
This glaze is more typical of what is known as 'Iron Rust', breaking from
black to brown more consistently. Consequently it is good for highlighting
texture, incising, throw rings etc..
